1. Setting up Word

To gain access to these features of Microsoft Word -

You will need to add the developer tab. This tab will give you access to fields, drop down menus, and check boxes, and it will also allow you to protect and un-protect the document. Switching between protected (locked) and unprotected (unlocked) mode, allows you to access the automating features of form fields and also have the freedom to modify the document.

You can also add the lock icon to your Quick Access Toolbar. This will make locking/unlocking the document even faster.

You can learn about these features and more in the video below and on pages 1-4 of the Tutorial PDF.

When in protected (locked) mode, you can:
  • Add data in the grey field boxes quickly and safely.
  • Be sure you will not accidentally modify other parts of your document.
  • Use Tab or arrow keys to navigate to the next field box.

When in unprotected (unlocked) mode, you can:
  • Add, modify, format, and remove fields.
  • Create your template.
  • Create data tables and test descriptions.
  • Insert data tables and saved paragraphs using AutoCorrect
    • Learn how this works in Step 5 or page 13 of the Tutorial guide
  • Adjust the properties of form fields, delete form fields, and add REF and IF Fields
    • Learn in Step 6 or page 8-12 of the Tutorial guide
