3. Fields



 There are two basic types of Fields:


  1. Fields that will accept data which is entered when the document is locked (called Text Form Fields)
  2. Fields that will display data automatically (e.g. REF Fields, IF Fields, Nested IF Fields, etc.)

Fields are a powerful feature of Word. They make data entry quicker, and the data can also be catalogued for later retrieval. This means that the data can be repeated automatically in other parts of your report. To do this, a different field (i.e. REF Field) refers to data in the Text Form Field through an identifier called a bookmark.

This feature allows you to enter the student's first name at the beginning of the report and have it automatically displayed in the rest of your report. The same feature can be used to recall test scores and any other data that is repeated in more than one place.
